For more than four decades he has practiced criminal-defense and police-misconduct law and pursued Freedom of Information Act records concerning the FBI and the Supreme Court. His legal writing has appeared in The New York Times and The Washington Post.
Through Bull City Law Publishing, he writes legal thrillers set in Durham, nonfiction about the FBI and Supreme Court, hockey humor, cultural history, and stories touching mental health. He also coached youth hockey for 15 years.
